It centers on two doofus cops, Schmidt(Jonah Hill) and Jenko(Channing Tatum, or “C-Tates” as he’s called these days), who, as a form of punishment, and due to them looking like high schoolers, get sent to a special division of the Police force: 21 Jump Street.
21 Jump Streetis a remake of that old TV show from the 80’s that aired on Fox, you know, the one that launched that guy Johnny Depp’s career. I bring this film up because it shares the same screenwriter(Michael Bacall), as this week’s comedy, 21 Jump Street, which, at it’s core, isn’t very similar to the other film at all. You have movies like Project X, a movie that makes no effort to befriend it’s audience and instead alienates it by doing some of the most heinous things and saying some very ridiculous words, although then again, some people like that kind of stuff. Berge Garabedian is the executive producer.Comedies these days are often hit-and-miss. This episode of Gone But Not Forgotten is written, produced and edited by David Arroyo. So join us on this week’s Gone But Not Forgotten as we dig into this eighties time capsule. Years later, the show is an interesting time capsule, which spawned two wildly successful big-screen reboots, 21 Jump Street and its sequel, 22 Jump Street, although they parodied what was essentially a serious cop show. Of the course of the five seasons, Depp would become a movie star thanks to Edward Scissorhands, and the show would eventually wind up ending its run in syndication. Later, they’re joined by Richard Greico’s Booker, who, like Depp, became a breakout heartthrob and got his own short-lived show. His fellow cops include Peter DeLuise’s Doug Penhall, Holly Robinson’s Judy Hoffs and Dustin Nguyen’s Harry Truman. He played a young police officer named Tom Hanson who joins a unit of young cops sent to infiltrate high schools. One of the first shows that broke out in popularity was 21 Jump Street, starring a then-unknown actor named Johnny Depp. Back in 1987, the Fox Network was brand new and needed hits.
